Pressbox (Press Release) - Close working relationship results in important network
optimization implementation for GPRS

London, 20 February 2001 – Leading Belgian GSM operator, Proximus, has adopted the Actix GPRS Analyzer tool from wireless network optimization specialist, Actix Limited, for the optimization of its GPRS network, due to be rolled out this spring.

Proximus has purchased four GPRS Analyzer licences, which will be used in a test-bed scenario, and will help the operator to better understand the functioning and characteristics that can be expected from an operational GPRS network.

Guido Vankelecom, Lead Manager Access Network at Proximus, responsible for technology validation and system engineering, said, “Proximus has considerable experience working with the Analyzer family. By using the GPRS Analyzer in a test-bed environment, we can test and validate technology and explore all the data we are likely to encounter when we implement our GPRS network this year.”

This latest version of Analyzer will enable Proximus to analyse data captured from the ‘Gb’ interface between the BSC and the serving GPRS support node (SGSN), to gain insight into system behaviour such as traffic, capacity, throughput and delay.

Stefan Engels, Product Director at Actix, said, “Actix has worked closely with Proximus throughout the development of the GPRS Analyzer.
It has helped to work with an operator who has been well advanced in their moves to roll out GPRS, and their feedback on functions they would like to see incorporated into the GPRS Analyzer has enabled Actix to include a variety of reports and capabilities. These have made the GPRS Analyzer the first comprehensive network optimization tool for the 2.5G world of the GPRS network operator.”

About Actix Analyzer
The Actix Analyzer solution centres on network performance optimization and decision support. It can address a wide range of applications, including: performance trouble-shooting; problem diagnosis and analysis; verification; network comparison for bench-marking; and competitive analysis.
This extremely versatile, PC-based software solution gives engineers, technicians and operations management staff a transparent view of network performance, both of home and competitive networks. The latter enables operators to protect their subscriber base and exploit gaps in competitive services.
The Analyzer platform analyses network performance data from all mobile technologies, including: IS-136, GSM, iDEN, GPRS, TETRA and CDMA, addressing such factors as: handover, coverage and capacity, frame error rates and dropped calls, all of which can be monitored and displayed, along with other relevant performance parameters.
