Neousys Technology Announced Patented Intelligent Supercapacitor-based Power Backup Technology

Added: (Thu Feb 21 2019)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Neousys Technology today announced the patented intelligent supercapacitor-based power backup technology. The latest technology is based on supercapacitor and combined Neousys’ patented architecture, CAP energy management technology, so it can operate in harsh environments from -25 to 65°C and has extremely high durability lasting up to 10 years.

Supercapacitor is a high-capacity capacitor with capacitance values much higher than other capacitors that bridge the gap between electrolytic capacitors and rechargeable batteries. The emerging category of capacitor offering 10-100 times more energy density than electrolytic capacitor. In addition, it is has a wide operating temperature range (-40 to 85℃) and long operating life (10 years or 500,000 charge-discharge cycles). Thses two traits help make it a reliable industrial power backup solution.

To design and create a reliable supercapacitor-based power system requires fundamental techniques such as charge/ discharge control, active load balance and DC/ DC regulation. But the real challenge is how to get the most out the capacitor energy while ensuring the system shuts down safely during the blackout. Neousys’ patented CAP energy management technology features incorporate a microprocessor along with supercapacitor and charge/ discharge controller .The proprietary firmware embedded in the MCU to extend back-up time in an event of unforeseen power outage and monitor energy consumed and estimates the time required for system shutdown.

In addition, compared to traditional battery-based UPS systems, Neousys’ supercapacitor-based power module can sustain superb reliability in extreme temperature environments and eliminates the drawback of battery performance degradation over time.

Neousys has two intelligent supercapacitor-based power backup module, one is a plug-and-play PCIe card; the other one is standalone module. The first module has 2500 watt-second energy capacity is specifically designed for Neousys’ controller. The second mode, PB-9250J series, can be compatible with all box-PCs and it has versatile operating mode for vertical applications such as ignition control mode is available for in-vehicle controller. PB-9250J will be released in Q2.
