Pressbox (Press Release) -
A LEADING EUROPEAN INTERNET TELEVISION OPERATOR,
PARTNERS WITH H2P (UK)
TO CREATE THEIR THIRD EUROPEAN SUBSIDIARY, CANALWEB UK
Saturday, 07 October 2000
www.CanalWeb.net is revolutionising the television industry across Europe, providing live and archived video on demand. CanalWeb has launched a multilingual network at the forefront of European webcasting, with French, Spanish, German and Russian programming already available on the site. Affiliates in Barcelona and Berlin are already in place. Canalweb SA also has joint ventures with regional media groups in France.
Strengthened by fresh development funds from shareholders like Nesbic, Vantobel and Paribas last May, CanalWeb, Europe’s pioneering Internet TV operator, is continuing to accelerate its international development. The company will announce its future partnership with H2P, UK specialists in interactive new media, at 2:30pm at Earls Court at the Streaming Media Conference, Wednesday October 11.
H2P is the brainchild of two prominent figures in the British media scene, Mathew Horsman and Fred Hasson. Mathew Horsman is Research Director, Media, at Investec Henderson Crosthwaite Securities where he has specialised in new media, digital broadcasting and radio. Fred Hasson has recently resigned from the board of interactive media company Victoria Real, with whom he worked to develop the company between 1997-2000. He has spent many years in British television and has focussed more recently on digital content.
H2P and CanalWeb UK will develop an original schedule of British programmes using the CanalWeb model of highly themed and specialised channels, local channels, and public access. The format allows viewers to interact with the TV while viewing video streaming. Complementary interactive web functions are available including ChatBox, whereby users can chat either directly with the show hosts, or with fellow Net Viewers. The programmes are also enriched with related information including photographs, text, images and sounds, and links to other websites that deal with the programme theme. Many of the programmes are broadcast live and most are archived, and available on demand. H2P are currently in discussion with a number of personalities, production companies and content providers to deliver the first bouquet of programming.
CanalWeb UK will position itself to be a leading provider, developer and aggregator of content in broadband Internet for both consumer and business audiences.
