ScienceMedCentral.com: the Internet's new source for scientific knowledge

LONDON, SEPT 12 - ScienceMedCentral.com, a publisher of free-access peer-reviewed scientific information in science and medicine announced that it is commencing operations today. ScienceMedCentral.com publishes peer-reviewed research in all areas of medicine, biology, chemistry, and physics.

ScienceMedCentral.com journals will generate revenues through advertising partnerships and through the sale of value-added services to a projected membership of thousands of medical and research professionals.

A new entrant into the science, technology and medicine (STM) publishing marketplace, ScienceMedCentral.com is committed to building a reputation for integrity and quality. Every ScienceMedCentral.com journal will develop an editorial board of qualified experts to ensure the highest quality standards in all published research. "Quality peer review is the most important function of ScienceMedCentral.com", said director Mark Reimer, noting that "free access to high quality literature will significantly improve the value of STM publishing."

"Clearly, this initiative represents the future for dissemination of the scientific literature - current information, ready access and customizable options for researchers will be of immense benefit to both academic and industrial researchers," said Dr. Michael W. Clarke, editor-in-chief of Biological Procedures Online and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Western Ontario.

Authors retain copyright ownership of their work when publishing with ScienceMedCentral.com. Published articles will be archived permanently and abstracted by the major abstracting services to maximize impact. "By giving authors complete ownership over their published work, ScienceMedCentral.com is addressing a critical un-met need of the research community", states Dr. Clarke, "the current model of assigning copyright to private publishers simply will not be viable in the future."

Under the direction of Mark Reimer, ScienceMedCentral.com, wholly owned by Biological Procedures Online, has published information for professionals in science and medicine since 1998.
