Virgin Radio announces Nick Jackson as new Drivetime DJ
Nick Jackson (29) has been appointed Virgin Radio’s new Drivetime DJ, taking up the position originally earmarked for Steve Penk, now Virgin Radio’s new Breakfast Show host.
Nick, who has spent the last 12 months at Century FM in Manchester presenting its mid-morning show, arrives at the Virgin Radio studios on Monday 9 July and will broadcast the Drivetime slot from 4 - 7pm every weekday.
Prior to Century FM, Nick spent two years at BRMB in Birmingham, originally on late nights and then moving to the station’s afternoon show 12 - 3pm, weekdays.
His early experience was on the famous pirate radio station, Radio Caroline, where he was its youngest ever DJ. He then moved to SGR Colchester and spent three years at the Essex-based local station, before moving to Heart FM in Birmingham in July 1996.
Speaking today, Nick says: “This is a dream gig. I’ve been a Virgin Radio fan for years. I’ll be playing music I thoroughly enjoy and joining an extremely talented team.”
Paul Jackson, Virgin Radio’s programme director says: “It’s tremendous to have Nick on air at Virgin. He brings with him a great appreciation of many types of music and understanding of what Virgin Radio listeners want.”
Commenting on the appointment of the new Drivetime DJ, Paul Jackson also confirmed the departure of DJ Nick Abbot. “Nick has made a great contribution to Virgin Radio on a number of different shows. He felt the time was right to move on and we wish him well in everything he does in the future.”
