MORE QUALITY FOR PEMBROKESHIRE

More Radio, based in Haverfordwest, is applying to the Radio Authority to become Pembrokeshire’s first permanent local radio station. The closing date for the application is July 3rd, with a decision expected in the autumn.

Station Director Steve Lloyd said "We will reflect the linguistic richness of Pembrokeshire with programmes in both English and Welsh based on our popular trial broadcasts from Haverfordwest in 1999 and 2000. It is our promise that More Radio is totally committed to Pembrokeshire. More Radio will be Welsh owned providing a quality local service broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from Pembrokeshire".

The following have agreed to become directors of More Radio.

Brian Charles will be Chairman– he is the retired Chairman and executive Managing Director of Welsh Water/Dwr Cymru. He is presently a member of the Milford Haven Ports Authority, Director of the Milford Haven Docks Board and deputy chairman of Childline.

Lloyd Coles from Pembroke Dock is one of Pembrokeshire’s foremost broadcasters and a long time campaigner for local radio in the county. He works as an archivist.

Danny Fellows is vice chair of Pembrokeshire College, vice chair of the Milford Haven Ports Authority and a board member of ELWA – Education and Learning Wales. He is also the chairman of ELWA’s regional committee.

John Davies is a County Councillor and farmer from Crymych. He is a member of the Dyfed-Powys Police Authority Liaison Committee, the executive committee of the Welsh Books Council and vice-chairman of Pembrokeshire Education Authority. John also worked as a presenter of S4C programmes for many years.

John Allen-Mirehouse.is a County Councillor and Deputy Leader of Pembrokeshire County Council. A farmer at Angle, he is honorary secretary of the Angle lifeboat and a member of the National Parks Authority.

Steve Lloyd added that More Radio would also be forming a Listeners panel made up of volunteers to monitor broadcasts in order to ensure that More Radio continues to reflect the needs of the County.

More Radio is a joint venture between More FM Limited and North Wales Newspapers Limited – the owners of Radio Ceredigion and Y Cymro.
