Pressbox (Press Release) - We’re Staying CONNECT’ed
6th June 2001

The Radio Authority has today re-awarded the radio licence to broadcast to Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and the surrounding areas to Connect FM.

The licence, which runs for a further 8 years from the 1st January 2003, was re-awarded by Radio Authority members to the station today.

Connect FM, which has previously been an AM station (KCBC), now begins its plans in earnest to grow even further into the hearts of local people.

Simon Walker, Station Director, said “ We’re delighted. The Staff have worked incredibly hard to develop the station in the last 12 months and they deserve all of the credit. We’re truly a station that serves the local population and the feedback that we get every day tells us that the station’s doing it better than ever. The work really starts now to take the station to the next level. The local support we received from the listeners was unbelievable. Some of our team have been here since it all began in 1990, they really own the business, not us.”

Chairman Kenni James said “I can’t tell you how happy we are, the team really has worked incredibly hard to make sure the station did what it’s licensed to do, that is serve the local area. I’m ecstatic for the team, they deserve all of the credit, myself and the other Directors are delighted for them.”

Connect FM is, and always will be, the local station for people in Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough and the surrounding areas.
