Lexmark Analyses Worldwide Web Site Traffic Using Netmining Technology

Pressbox (Press Release) - Leuven, Belgium, 3 January 2002– Lexmark, a global supplier of printing solutions, has chosen Netmining, the Leuven-based supplier of software for e-business intelligence, to develop its worldwide web monitoring software. To that end, Netmining has developed and implemented their new “Netmining Data Collector”, (now part of Netmining’s HitsIntoMetrics and HitsIntoLeads solutions) that was engineered in collaboration with Lexmark. The software application has now also been made generally available. Lexmark draws on the software to collect data with a view to measuring which of its web pages and services are proving most popular and how they can improve these sites further still.

The Netmining Data Collector enables Lexmark to collect consistent and reliable data on visitor traffic providing a window on national and international web site traffic. The company can also see which content elements are highly ranked among the various visitor groups. In addition, Lexmark is given the possibility to measure the results of marketing campaigns and adapting them where necessary.

‘Tagging’ URLs with uniform business URLs
Lexmark markets its products in more than 150 countries. A comparison of visitor flows on all Lexmark web sites is not that simple as often a variety of dissimilar technical standards and/or system layouts are being applied. Netmining’s technology gets around this problem by ‘tagging’, i.e. linking every URL belonging to Lexmark to uniform business URLs. The last-mentioned URLs enrich the log files of Lexmark ‘at source’ so that web site traffic reports are comparable. On top of that, the ‘enriched’ web data can also be a source for conventional Web reporting tools.

More specifically, the Netmining Data Collector has been installed on a central security and logging server. This server features as a central point for authenticating user access to restricted resources. While that server communicates with all national and international servers, it will pool all the available data, at the global level, on web site visitors and usage patterns.
