What are the chances my Russian visa application will get denied?

You have filled out the visa application, provided your life’s details and now handed them over to the consulate. Once your documents are submitted, it’s a waiting game. It seems to remind people of the look on parents’ faces when a child comes home. You know, the one when parents are trying to imagine what nonsense the kid may have been up to before coming home later than expected. Then, the kid starts thinking, “uh oh, what have I done wrong this time?” A list of potential infractions run through his mind as the stare continues.
A visa applicant can most likely relate to that scene. You’re thinking whether or not you answered everything as truthful as you should have or whether you didn’t explain something in as much detail as they want. You can suddenly think of dozens of reasons why your visa application could come back rejected.
Hasn’t anyone ever told you not to worry so much? In this case, you really don’t have to worry so much when it comes to applying for a visa to Russia. The fact is that the likelihood of the average tourist being denied a Russian visa is extremely low, as long as the visa application is filled out correctly and supporting documents are in order. The visa application covers almost every aspect that the Russian consulate could ask for and asking for additional documents is not an indication that your application will be denied. Most of the time it’s just a formality.
And let’s not forget that it’s in Russia’s interest to bring tourists to Russia. They want you to get a visa to Russia as well. Many consulates around the world, as well as Russian consulates, have an official partner to help you submit the correct visa application and supporting documents. In the US, it used to be ILS and now it’s VFS. They are the proofreaders before your documents reach the consulate, if you will.
