Bee venom may not be the first thing that springs to mind as a way of relieving joint and muscle pain, but to a growing band of devoted users it is the only way they can deal with their arthritic symptoms.

Until now the most common form of bee venom therapy was to use live bees on the affected area and allow them to sting repeatedly. Although an effective painkiller for some it is not suprising that it has had a mixed degree of popularity!

Using Bee venom for medicinal purposes is not new -- historically it has been used for everything from baldness to rabies, but its main purpose has been to treat rheumatism and arthritic conditions. Both Ivan the Terrible and Charlmagne are said to have used bee venom to treat their ailments and currently there is research being undertaken in a number of countries including Canada, Romania and the Czech Republic.

Bee V Balm is the effective alternative bee venom treatment. Applied topically to the affected area, each tube of pain relieving Bee V Balm contains the venom of up to 300 bees harvested in such a way as not to harm the bees. It works by stimulating the pituitary and adrenal glands to produce cortisol, the body's natural steroid anti-inflammatory pain reliever.Bee venom is nature's most powerful anti-inflammatory and is over 100 times more powerful than hydrocortisone.

What sets Bee V Balm apart from other formulations is the unique penetration system enables the venom to be carried deep into the site of the pain. This unique carrier system ensures that the large bee venom molecules have the ability to penetrate the skin surface. Having penetrated the skin the venom is able to pass through the underlying cell layers to the blood stream. Within six hours the venom can reach the bone marrow where it will remain for several hours due to its unique locking system. Once there, it can work to neutralise deep-seated pain.

The Balm is prepared to minimise incidences of allergic sensitivity and as a back-up to this, each tube comes complete with a small sachet for new users to use on a test patch. In the rare case that a consumer does get a negative reaction to the test patch there is a money back guarantee. It is recommended that the Balm should be applied daily in small amounts and, although results vary according to the severity of the pain and the length of time the symptoms have been present, effective pain relief can be
felt either immediately or within two weeks of treatment.

Bee V Balm costs 24.95 and is available from independent health food stores or by mail order from East West Herbs telephone: 0800 0345 500 or fax 0800 0345 600.
