Dexa Scan

Added: (Tue Jun 27 2023)

Pressbox (Press Release) - A DEXA bone density scan or ‘dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry’ is a non-invasive, painless, and cutting-edge image diagnostic test conducted to determine your bone mineral density and to ascertain the extent of bone loss.

The results of the DEXA scan help orthopaedics confirm the presence of or the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.

The DEXA bone density test helps in determining your bone strength and how susceptible you might be to fractures and a host of bone disorders.

This bone image test is primarily conducted on the hips and the spine, two of the most vulnerable skeletal structures of the body.

The DEXA bone scan is a quick image testing procedure that takes about 10 to 20 minutes and is an outpatient procedure, meaning you can go back home the same day.

This bone scanning technique is much more efficient than a regular X-ray as it uses two X-ray beams, a high energy beam and a low energy one.

The results of the DEXA bone scan are denoted as T-score. This scoring system takes the bone health of a 30-year-old as a benchmark, as the bones are strongest at this age.
