ABG Professional Information launches peer-to-peer content network

Added: (Mon Oct 01 2001)

Pressbox (Press Release) - ABG Professional Information announced today that it is using NextPage's NXT 3 peer-to-peer platform to deliver access to accounting information from its website, abgweb.com, within accounting firms' corporate intranets. Deloitte & Touche, another NXT 3 user, is one ABG customer integrating content from abgweb.com with its internal corporate content.

"NextPage's peer-to-peer technology is fundamentally changing the way partners and suppliers in the accounting industry exchange information," said Steve Savory, Head of Electronic Publishing for ABG. "With this technology, accountants can now browse, search, navigate and personalize both content from abgweb.com and internal information as if it existed on their desktops."

abgweb.com delivers a comprehensive range of accountancy content online, from Accountancy magazine to the full text of up-to-date accounting standards. Subject areas include audit, company law, business management, business consultancy, financial management and tax. ABG also delivers online training, which reinforces skills learned at training events taken as part of a structured programme of continuing professional development.

"NextPage is helping ABG dramatically increase its value to the accounting industry," said Bill Wesemann, Chief Executive Officer of NextPage. "We help publishers provide accounting firms with access to the industry's most current regulatory and policy information inside their corporate intranets. This helps accounting firms ensure their compliance with accounting standards."

NextPage technology allows ABG to ensure it is delivering the most up-to-date information to customers. Because peer-to-peer connections between the publisher and customers are live, once an information owner at ABG makes a change to information in the peer-to-peer content network, it is immediately available to all subscribers to the content network. Content no longer needs to be centralised to be accessed. Rather, it can be created and maintained in its original location by its original author.

NextPage Premier Partner Catalyst Electronic Publishing Ltd assisted in the creation and hosting of the ABG web site. Catalyst provides e-content consulting, design, implementation and support services based on "best in class" technology, experience and expertise.

ABG Professional Information will be on show in London later this year.

In December more than 350 companies at the very cutting edge of information technology will gather in the Olympia exhibition centre in London in what has become over the last quarter of a century the largest single show of its kind in the world.

The exhibition and conference, Online Information 2001, is once again being staged by Oxford-based Learned Information.

The exhibitors will be from around the world as well as there being many British representatives. Countries represented will include the Netherlands, Finland, Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium, Italy and Ireland.

Key speakers from Britain and further afield also will be sharing the latest news and views at scheduled conference sessions.
