Pressbox (Press Release) - My-Reputation provides evidence of exploitation
on the Internet and enables lawyers to fight back

A new package designed to help the legal profession combat abuse of their famous clients on the worldwide web is launched this week by commercial internet watchdog My-Reputation.

Portsmouth based My-Reputation is the only UK company specialising in protecting famous people and brands from exploitation on the internet. It provides clients with information on their internet presence and consultancy tailored to help them create new commercial opportunities by reaching their fan base on-line. Working on behalf of clients including major charities, television celebrities and pop stars, My-Reputation discovered an explosion in the number of unscrupulous internet entrepreneurs taking advantage of the global public interest in celebrities.

Blatant exploitation was uncovered, including being routed to a shopping mall when clicking on celebrity images, hijacking star names for web sites selling bootleg merchandise, and using famous names to entice fans to hard-core porn sites.

“Many high profile people see such shocking abuse of their name as one of the costs of fame in today’s technology driven society, and don’t see how they can stop it. With nine million new web pages being created every day it can be difficult to assess the scale of the problem and to gather evidence for litigation” says My-Reputation CEO Mel Croucher.

“We have been instructed to gather evidence on some very delicate cases, including major abuse of the Pink Floyd name. Our systems and strategies have proved themselves and we have been able to package our service specifically to serve the needs of the litigation process. By supplying the evidence and quantifying its impact, we make it easier for exploited clients to take legal action, and we believe that internet cowboys will think very hard before taking celebrity names in vain.”

The Legal Professional package comprises a summary investigative report assessing the extent of the exploitation of a client or client’s intellectual property rights on the web, followed by an In-Depth Report and CD Rom. This provides highly detailed evidence, and rates the damage level of each type of exploitation found. Clients can also choose to have on-going monitoring of their presence on the web during the course of any litigation in progress.

The My-Reputation Legal Professional Package costs 5,000 +VAT for the Rapid Response Investigative Report, 10,000 +VAT for the In-Depth Report and 1000 +VAT/month for on-going monitoring.
