SurfControl plc, the World's number one Internet filtering software company, announced today that Cyber Patrol 5.0 for Microsoft Proxy Server has been released for distribution throughout the UK and Europe. The new version, released recently in the United States, incorporates an improved user interface and streamlined administration to make Cyber Patrol easier for schools, colleges and LEAs to use in managing student time online.

SurfControl's CEO, Steve Purdham, said: "We are the world's most experienced developers of filtering software and we've applied everything we've learned to create a product that ensures appropriate and productive use of the Internet in schools while protecting users from inappropriate content. We are very happy to be able to offer Cyber Patrol 5.0 and all of its sophisticated yet easy-to-use features and benefits to the British and European markets."

The streamlined administration means the level of filtering can be defined for each user simply by allowing or restricting access to various categories on the system's menu. The software's open architecture configuration provides administrators with the option of customising lists by adding or deleting specific websites.

For greater flexibility in managing Internet access whilst ensuring the software is targeted to meet the unique requirements of educators, Cyber Patrol 5.0 offers both a list of inappropriate sites, the CyberNOT list, and a list of fun and educational sites, the CyberYES list. The "CyberNOT" is a list that excludes websites with excessively violent, pornographic, unlawful or otherwise inappropriate content for children. The "CyberYES" list guides children to a wide range of educational or entertaining categories of content.

Cyber Patrol 5.0 for Microsoft Proxy Server is one of a number of popular SurfControl software packages. Cyber Patrol is also available for Windows and Macintosh LAN, as well as for Novell BorderManager. Standalone versions also are available for Windows and Macintosh. Current Cyber Patrol customers include the British Government's Department for Education and Employment and Cabinet Office, Barclays Bank, Natwest Bank, DeBeers and AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. A full-featured demonstration version of Cyber Patrol 5.0 can be found at www.surfcontrol.com.
