English school takes to the waves

Added: (Wed Aug 23 2000)

Pressbox (Press Release) - A Cambridge language school is launching the first on-line English learning centre to broadcast daily video lessons to its students via the net.

The Byron School Cambridge goes live with its new venture, video-english.com, on 11th September.

"The technology allowing us to do this on our sort of scale just hasn't been around for long" explained Will Burrows, Director of The Byron School Cambridge and initiator of the project. "It's been a huge challenge, and we're still learning as the technology develops, but we're providing intensive teaching on our site, rather than just learning resources. It's a very exciting project."

In the proliferating on-line education market, the need to communicate directly and effectively with students presents the greatest challenge, even with the rapid expansion of interactive gizmos and plug-ins. It remains to be seen if this latest venture brings us any closer to the elusive virtual-school-land.
