Det Norske Veritas Certification, Inc. Approved Certifier of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
(Houston, TX) – Det Norske Veritas Certification, Inc. announced today that it has been approved by the California Energy Commission (CEC) and California Climate Action Registry (CCAR) to provide independent certification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions on behalf of the (CCAR) participants.
The California Climate Action Registry was established by the state of California to support organizations that are working aggressively to improve energy efficiency and reduce their GHG emissions. This voluntary registry has certified Det Norske Veritas Certification, Inc. (DNV) to measure GHG emissions, establish baseline emissions and report annual emission results. To date, DNV Certification is only the second company that has met the stringent requirements involved in becoming a certifier to register participants.
DNV Certifications involvement with CCAR is just another reflection of its dedication to safeguard life, property and the environment. One of the world’s leading independent GHG verifiers, DNV Certification has been engaged in a number of projects and independent verifications related to climate change, ISO 14001 and corporate social responsibility.
“This is a milestone event for DNV” said Yehuda Dror, DNV Certification President. He further added, “GHG verification services are a very important component in our overall business strategies. California has taken a lead initiative in programs to reduce GHG emissions, this approval by CCAR will allow us to work closely with the state and participant companies in attaining their emission reduction goals.”
DNV Certification is the leading worldwide provider of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project certification with over 50% of the market share. In addition, it co-designed the audit framework for the verification of BPs global GHG emission in preparation for the launch of their internal trading system. Other projects include assisting the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) with regards to third party services for Climate Change projects and designing the verification schemes for both the Greenhouse Challenge and the Greenhouse Friendly Products schemes in Australia to name a few.
DNV Certification is a member of the World Business Council for sustainable Development (WBCSD), the International Emission Trading Association (IETA) and the Emissions Marketing Association. DNV is certified under the UK Greenhouse Gas Trading Scheme and has recently applied under the UNFCCC CDM as a “designated operational entity.” To learn more visit, www.dnvcert.com/cc.
