Immigrating to Canada? Obtain a Canadian secured VISA Credit Card

Added : ( Mon May 26 2003 )

ATT: IMMIGRANTS – NEW TO CANADA

If you are planning to immigrate to Canada from Great Britain, the United States, Mexico, Hong Kong, Australia or any other parts of Europe, South America or Asia, you will need to establish your Canadian credit history in your new homeland.

Unfortunately, you will also quickly discover that Canadian banks are NOT interested in loaning money to you as an immigrant! But with a secured VISA Credit Card, all residents here can immediately begin building their credit history in Canada, even before they become Canadian citizens.

By the time you qualify for citizenship and a Social Insurance Number (SIN) you will also have a positive credit rating on which to build your new life financially in Canada.

A secured VISA has all the rights and responsibilities of any reputable credit card. Any merchant that takes VISA accepts it. The only difference is your credit limit is established and maintained by a fully refundable security deposit from $600-$10,000 CAD depending on your needs.

The application can be completed online. Then you simply print and mail the completed form, along with a certified cheque or money order in Canadian dollars (as a security deposit) payable to Home Trust VISA (see address on form). For example, if you would like to receive a credit limit of $600, you then enclose a certified check or money order for $600 together with your application. The credit limit or the amount of your deposit can be as low as $600 and as high as $10,000 (in increments of $600). Your Security Deposit will be held in an interest-bearing account with interest payable to you on the anniversary of the opening of your account. The current interest paid on deposits is 2% (while your VISA card is open and in good standing).

In Canada, a secured VISA Credit Card is the only way to build your credit history as an immigrant. Almost all applicants accepted (even if your current credit history is bad or poor in your native country). Cheques are only cashed upon acceptance of your application.
