UK PHOTONICS EXHIBITION SMASHES ALL RECORDS

Added : ( Wed Oct 17 2001 )

Confidence in the future of the optics and photonics sector has received a massive boost with yesterday’s record turnout and support for the opening day of Photonex 2001 – the UK’s leading photonics show.

Against an industry backdrop of anticipated but slow recovery, Photonex 2001 has smashed previous records, with 40 per cent more exhibitors, 25% of new companies in attendance and a first day visitor check revealing a growth of 40%.

In its tenth year of operation, show founder and Exhibition Director Laurence Devereux said: “The previous boom in fibre optics provided the funding for research programmes into the fundamentals of photonics. The fruits of these programmes are on display and the exciting element is that judging by the numbers and quality of visitors, the market is getting ready to move forward once again.

“There is also a plethora of vibrant young companies, any one of which may hold the key to major breakthroughs for the use of optics as yet only a dream”.

Photonex 2001 is being staged for the third successive year at the NAC Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire. Due to its ongoing successive expansion, it will be moving to the prestigious Cardiff International Arena, where it will form the heart of the Photon02 – a new event to showcase the best in optics and photonics (September 2-5, 2002).
