TOP INVENTOR OFFERS ADVICE TO START-UP INNOVATION ENTREPRENEURS

Added : ( Mon Oct 08 2001 )

One of Britain’s top inventors will be passing on key advice for entrepreneurs who want to start a successful business from their invention.

Mandy Haberman, inventor of the Anywayup® Cup, a non-spill trainer cup for children, which now sells over 10 million units annually in 70 countries, will be revealing the secret to her success. The inventor who launched her cups in 1995 will be talking at a public seminar on 16 October at the EPIDOS & PATINNOVA patents and innovation conference held at the Cardiff International Arena.

Drawing from her experience, Haberman will stress the importance of Intellectual Property rights and will advise inventors to be cautious in revealing their ideas.

Haberman says: “Intellectual Property rights are invaluable when launching a product, they buy your product a space in the market and give you control over the future of your idea.”

Mandy will also illustrate the importance of using an expert to do your patent searches before rushing ahead with developing your new ideas. She says: “Patent searches are useful in so many ways. You can find out whether you’re in danger of duplicating work that’s already been carried out or whether your idea is truly original and worthy of development.”

The EPIDOS and PATINNOVA conference, on the 15-18 October is hosted by the European Commission and European Patent Office in conjunction with the UK Patent Office. It will highlight topical issues in patents, trade marks and design registration to decision-makers in industry, government, legal firms and universities. The themes for the public seminars are Industrial Property: A Reward for Original Thinking and Patents & Money: Using Patents to Increase R&D Efficiency, Reduce Development Costs and Improve Competitiveness.

Tickets for the public seminars are available price £10 (including buffet lunch). For more information about how to attend the seminars, please visit www.patinnova.org
