The first of its kind in Singapore, the M1 Singapore Fringe Festival is set to be a creative centre with a twin-purpose of innovation and discussion, and a platform for meaningful and provocative art to engage our increasingly connected and complex world. We’ll bring you the best of contemporary, cutting-edge and socially engaged works exploring this year’s theme of ART & WAR!
LIVE FRINGE -- live shows
What Big Bombs You Have!!! (Singapore)
A modern kick-ass reworking of the Little Red Riding Hood. Meet the Wolf who can’t fight to save his life, the Grandmother planning a mass suicide, the overprotective Hunter… and the Little Girl who’s afraid of the dark.
Adolf (United Kingdom) – double-bill with Anthology
An astonishing play based on the words of “Mein Kampf” and “Table Talk” that furnishes an accurate anatomy of fascism, its ideological justifications and poisoned utopias.
Anthology (Israel) – double-bill with Adolf
An interactive play about a holocaust survivor living in the shadows of the past and her obsessions – music and the Jewish people. Sit around her piano, have some cognac.
Errorism – Flowers Of Evil (Singapore)
A double-bill featuring electro-sound design, physical theatre, sound sculpture and mask performance engaging the concept of Errorism – human foolishness and ignorance – in view of the post-911 world.
How to Peace (Singapore)
A performance in 3 parts designed by Noor Effendy Ibrahim and performed by Katak Kudung, celebrating the birth, life and death of War.
Untitled (Singapore)
A new work by pianist Shane Thio in collaboration with dancer-choreographer Kuo Jing Hong.
The Prayer for Unfaithful Women (France)
On the main square they shaved the heads of the women who had intimate relationships with the enemy. Some of them were crying, some were not.
White Men With Weapons (South Africa)
A funny, poignant and harrowing play acclaimed for its hilarious but clear-sighted examination of masculinity, militarism and what happens when you realise you've been fighting the wrong war.

Autumn Rain (China) – Singapore premiere
A tale of Beijing opera, war grievances and the romance between a Japanese girl and a Chinese boy.
War and Peace (India)
A documentary on peace activism vs. global militarism and war framed by Gandhi’s death.
Punitive Damage (New Zealand)
A landmark fight for justice by a mother for a son murdered in East Timor.
A Petal (South Korea)
A young girl’s search for her long-dead elder brother amidst the horror and abuse of the Kwangju massacre in 1980.
Apocalypse Now Redux (USA)
A young captain’s battle to take down a deranged colonel in the Vietnam War.
La Jetée (France) – double-bill with Hôtel des Invalides
A man’s journey back in time from a bleak post-nuclear war Earth to search for food, supplies and a solution to mankind’s imminent demise.
Hôtel des Invalides (France) – double-bill with La Jetée
A renowned documentary of the French war museum in a scathing and surreal mix of the lyrical with the horrific.
Under the Domim Tree (Israel)
The coming-of-age stories of a group of teenage Holocaust survivors in an Israeli boarding school.
FRINGE GALLERY -- still art
No Child’s Play (Israel)
An exhibition on the children who suffered during the Holocaust.
War is a Singular Act (Singapore)
A series of minute-long programs that examines the photographic/video image of war.
Glimpses of Light II (Singapore)
A photo exhibition capturing the resilience displayed by survivors in Indonesia and Sri Lanka after the terrible devastation wreaked by the recent Asian tsunami.

Peace Concert (Singapore & Thailand)
A concert featuring bands Dugongan, Hello Kitty Riot and Space Bucha (from Bangkok).
Armchair Generals Meet at Writers Connect (Singapore)
A discussion on writings about war, followed by production of poems and prose by participants. Facilitated by Word Forward.
A Dialogue on the German-Israel Relationship and the Impact of the Holocaust on the Respective Countries
A dialogue between Maya Kadosh (Embassy of Israel) & Karsten Warnecke (Embassy of Federal Republic of Germany).
Discussion on Art and War (International)
A discussion moderated by Ms Pascale Fabre (Executive Director, Alliance Française). Panelists include Mr Andreas Michaelis (Ambassador, Federal Republic of Germany), Ms Braema Mathi (Nominated MP, Singapore), Mr Phan Ming Yen (Director of Artistic Development, The Arts House), Dr Quah Sy Ren (Playwright) and Mr Lim Cheng Tju (History Teacher, Raffles JC).
War Memories (Singapore)
An interview conducted by Dr Tan Chong Kee with journalist-writer Han Tan Juan.

A collaborative public art event by artist Amanda Heng exploring the faculty of memory through the recollections by older Singaporeans of the Japanese occupation in World War II.

A Poetry Slam that commemorates the War Poets of World War I and their legacy with special classic readings and a solo slam of contemporary works on the subject.
