The Hewett Under 18 Soccer Team, who last week won the Eden Prairie International Cup in Minneapolis, by beating Ireland Under 18, 1 – 0 in the final, this week travelled to Blaine to play in the world famous U.S.A Cup. After qualifying for the knock out stages by finishing third in their league they moved on to round two where they beat Bavarians 3 – 0, then the quarter finals beating Ireland again, this time on penalties. Then the semi final beating Wichita Select 2-1. By qualifying for the final they created a little bit of history, by being the first English team to reach the final. In the final they played Toronto in temperatures approaching 100 degrees and after 90 minutes and extra time the score was 1-1. They achieved victory in the penalty competition with scores from Rebeck, Campbell, Hoey and Flintham to win the penalty competition 4-1.
