CHURCH OF SCIENTOLOGY OF NEW YORK INNAUGURATES NEW HOME

10,000 Scientologists, friends and invited guests celebrated the grand opening of the newly renovated home for the Church of Scientology of New York, today.

The complete restoration of the Church’s 46,650 square-foot premises located at 227 West 46th Street in New York City, was accomplished through the generous donations of Scientologists internationally. Work began on the project in 2001 in acknowledgement of the tremendous contributions made to the rescue and recovery efforts following the World Trade Center bombings by the Church’s Volunteer Minister Corps.

“The project was funded by our members around the world who were inspired by the work of the Volunteer Ministers at Ground Zero,” said Rev. John Carmichael, President of the Church of Scientology in New York City.

The guest speakers at the grand opening echoed this sentiment. Dr. Stephan Hittman, CEO of the 911 Foundation presented the Volunteer Minister Corps and the religion’s Founder, L. Ron Hubbard, with the Fire Department of New York’s Medal of Valor and 9-11 Service Award in honor of the contributions of the Volunteer Ministers. Dr. Hittman described the work as “invaluable in helping to relieve the trauma and fatigue of thousands of firefighters who worked tirelessly in the rescue and recovery effort.”

U.S. Congressman Charles Rangel praised the Church’s effective drug abuse and literacy programs, while United Nations Undersecretary Maurice Strong validated Church’s human rights public education campaign.

“We are very proud of the work our parishioners have done over the last fifty years in New York City,” said Rev. Carmichael. “And we are justifiably proud of our new building.
