Access North Ayr’s Dress Down Day raises money for Diabetes

Added : ( Mon Jun 14 2004 )

Economic regeneration and employment training agency Access North Ayr raised £245 for charity Diabetes UK at its recent Dress Down Day for Diabetes.

The exact amount was £244.26, of which £200 was raised by a raffle of donated prizes, and the remainder being paid to take part in the Dress Down Day itself by staff of Access North Ayr and other companies in the John Pollock Centre. These included North Ayr Office Services, Flexible Learning Centre and Ayr North Partnership.

Prizes in the raffle included a computer, £10 vouchers for Boots, Virgin Music, WH Smith, Tesco and many others such as bottles and toiletries shown in the attached picture. The picture also shows Access North Ayr Childcare staff who decided to dress as Men in Black.

Access North Ayr thanked all the companies who donated prizes. These also included ASDA (fruit basket), Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce (2 bottles of wine), Ayr North Sports Initiative (£20.00 of vouchers).

The second attached photograph shows James Walker, Treasurer for the Ayrshire Voluntary Group (Diabetes UK) receiving the cheque from Laura-Jane Given (Admin, Finance and SVQ Administrator at Access North Ayr) and Carol Munro (Flexible Learning Supervisor for Access North Ayr).

Laura-Jane and Carol are both diabetic, and jointly organised the event.

Laura-Jane commented: “The day was such a success, and the support shown from Access North Ayr and the John Pollock Centre was excellent. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day for everyone, not just prizewinners. Personally I felt a great sense of achievement in managing to organise such a rewarding day and raise such fantastic amount of money.”
Carol added: “I was really happy with the outcome of the Denim for Diabetes day. We raised a good sum of money and all staff, our family and our friends were very supportive - making the day extremely worthwhile and enjoyable. I would like to say a huge big thank you to everyone who contributed either by paying to wear denim for the day or through buying raffle tickets.”

Access North Ayr carries out this aim through the provision of relevant vocational guidance, training, work experience, childcare and other appropriate support.

This brings economic benefit not only to these individuals and their families, but also to North Ayr as a whole.
