New Castle Howard Plant Centre

Added : ( Fri Nov 28 2003 )

Castle Howard, York, is a magnificent House set in breathtaking grounds featuring temples, lakes and fountains. The Estate has led the way in gardens for over three hundred years and is now poised to share its gardening expertise with a wider market. At the beginning of March 2004, Castle Howard will launch a new aspirational garden and plant retail centre allowing customers to take home part of the great Estate.

Set in Vanbrugh’s 18th Century Walled Garden the Castle Howard Plant Centre is a sensitive development that has taken into consideration the Estate’s continuing commitment to restoration. The Plant Centre is built around a stunning water feature which Vanbrugh himself would be proud of. An external walkway with decorative pergola will lead customers through beds of shrubs, alpines, herbs, roses, herbaceous plants, plus ornamental and fruit trees. The development is designed to blend into its magnificent surroundings, offer an air of tranquillity and relaxation whilst browsing as well as providing dramatic views of Castle Howard itself.

The Castle Howard Plant Centre will have a 500 square metre covered sales area, which will be home to a huge range of plant and garden related gifts. The buyer from the Plant Centre is trying to source products as diverse as ladybird larvae and hedgehog houses to sawn timber products and logs from the Estate’s woodlands. The range will also include locally and Estate grown items and all products will have high quality, sustainability and the environment in mind. The expertise available at the Plant Centre will also include Woodland contracting and maintenance alongside a Garden Contracting Service. Both products and services available at the Castle Howard Plant Centre will allow customers to have a little bit of the stately home in their own back garden!

The Castle Howard Plant Centre is open daily from 10.00am until 5.00pm, with free car parking and admission. For further information please contact the Castle Howard Plant Centre on 01653 648646.
