Pressbox (Press Release) -
IT e-tailer and mail order giant Watford Electronics has been ranked top in the IT Industry category at Computer Weekly e-business Excellence Awards – ahead of BT.
Winner of best website, Watford was selected for its innovative, interactive and easy to use site in the IT Industry category - created to recognise the best use of e-business technology to deliver business benefits.
Watford founder and managing director Nazir Jessa, who accepted the award, a state of the art trophy, at a glittering prize ceremony at the Intercontinental Hotel, Park Lane, London earlier this month said: "I am extremely proud that our website has won such a prestigious award”.
“To even be shortlisted with business leader BT is a great honour but to be named overall winner puts Watford Electronics at the leading edge of e-business”.
“Having invested in IBM’s powerful Netfinity and RS6000 server technology, our virtual site is arguably one of the fastest and most reliable in Europe – the result being increased hits and a dramatic reduction in ‘abandoned shopping baskets’”.
“And the site’s seamless application ensures ease of use for both business and end users.”
Almost two years in creation, Watford’s fifth generation e-business ‘Clicks & Mortar' website was designed and produced in-house and continues to be enhanced as the technology becomes available.
Comments from some of Watford Electronics’ guests who attended the event:
“This is fantastic news for Watford and for SMEs across the UK - it proves that they really are leading the pack in providing advanced e-commerce sites.
“In the past I have campaigned both locally and nationally on the importance of SMEs, believing them to be essential to this country's competitive edge and it is heartwarming to see Watford get the recognition it deserves.”
Hon. Margaret Moran MP, PPS to Mo Mowlam, - Cabinet Office
