How to buy replacement laptop batteries when our old battery worn out

Added: (Tue Dec 11 2018)

Pressbox (Press Release) - “The battery in my Dell Inspiron laptop (1501) hasn’t worked for ages. I’ve checked with the recall website and it isn’t one of the faulty ones, so I guess it’s just worn out. I see they cost well over £100 on the official Dell website, but is there a cheaper place to buy one of these? I remember when I got a cheap battery for my mobile phone, it lasted a very short time, so I don’t want to go to one of these cheapo battery suppliers unless you know of a good one I could use.”
I replied:
“Are you certain that it is the battery that has failed and not something in the laptop power supply? Will it power the laptop for a short while, even just a minute or so?

Laptop batteries are notorious for not lasting very long and Original Manufacturer replacements are usually very expensive.

“When I turn on the laptop I get a message up saying ‘The system cannot recognise the battery. It will be unable to charge this battery’. Yes, it will power the laptop for a few minutes , but then dies so I always use it with the power cable.
It is the original Dell battery but, of course, I have had the laptop for three or four years now. I agree, it would be worth my while to get the cheaper battery – I only ever need it when I go to France.”

As she rarely uses the laptop on battery, am I right in suggesting an inexpensive £16 battery from a well-established ebay supplier? I do know that cheap batteries can quickly wear out even if rarely used. But at £16 a go she can afford to buy one every year or so and still be better off.

All laptop batteries need to be replaced at some point in time. Over time, the chemicals inside the battery begin to wear out meaning that gradually the battery life begins to decrease more and more. But do you know what to look out for when you need a replacement battery?

At Battery Experts, we are leading suppliers of batteries of all kinds, including replacement batteries for laptops. We provide batteries for all makes and models of laptops, and we offer professional help and advice to all of our customers. So, what do you need to know about buying replacement laptop batteries?

What to look out for:
When your battery needs to be replaced

Laptop batteries can be, and should be replaced as soon as your laptop starts to experience common symptoms, including the battery dying within a short time of being charged to full or if it refuses to turn on straight away. This will ensure that everything on your laptop – from important documents to uploaded photographs – is safe and protected from the risk of your laptop completely dying so they can’t be retrieved.

As we’ve already described, the batteries begin to wear as they are used over time. If you’ve had your laptop for a year or two, you may have even started to notice a difference in the battery capacity. It might be time for an update for both you and your laptop, but how do you know you’ve got a quality replacement battery for your laptop or notebook in your shopping basket? We tell you more.

A third-party alternative

It’s often a better idea to look to third-party alternatives when searching for a replacement laptop battery. Buying from the laptop manufacturer directly, whether from their site on in their shop, tends to be a lot more expensive. By opting for third-party alternatives like Battery Experts, you can save yourself a lot of money so it’s definitely worth shopping around.

Buying a laptop battery from replacement-batteries.co.uk is generally a safe option but wherever you buy from, you should follow the necessary precautions and be careful with your bargain hunting. Don’t just click ‘Add to Bag’ on the item with the cheapest price because that might result in you wasting your money.

You want to make sure the site is a trusty source, whether through efficient policies in place or friend’s recommendations, and you want to make sure you’re not purchasing a faulty battery – or worse, an unsafe laptop battery.

The right battery for you

By buying from a reliable source, you can ensure you get a fresh and new battery with optimum capacity for your laptop’s needs. However, before purchasing your replacement battery, you need to make sure that it’s the correct battery. The battery must meet all the laptop’s specifications as otherwise it could damage both the battery and the laptop.

Not all laptop batteries fit all laptops, so you should be aware of the specific type of battery your laptop requires, in terms of voltage and size. If you’re not sure what the model of your laptop needs, you can find out on your settings or you can get some professional advice.

Get it new

On top of making sure you’re buying from a trusty site or shop, you should also make sure you are buying the batteries brand new. There’s little point in spending money on a used battery, so check the site for a guarantee that all products are new and fresh or check the manufacture date of the battery.

At Battery Experts, we get all of our batteries new from the factory to provide you with the very best performing batteries and optimum capacity for your laptop. This way you can get the very best for your money.
