Pressbox (Press Release) - Jan 18, 2011 - Just by picking the design, size and the color of area rugs is not an easy task. And aside from those mentioned factors, one need to know what materials your area rugs are made of as well. Since decorating space is all about harmony between your furniture and interior design and the decors on the room, by checking the materials of the rugs one can easily rule out if the fibers of the rug blend well with the current interior design of the room.

Olefin or Polypropylene

Most of synthetic outdoor area rugs are made olefin or polypropylene because of its low cost yet durable nature. Are rugs made of olefin are lightweight, soil resistant, stain resistant, mold resistant and colorfast resistant; such a winner combination. One caution though when buying this kind of rug; it is not advisable placing them in an area where comings and goings frequently took place because of the hazard of sliding.

Rayon

Made from wood products and resembles synthetic silk area rugs. Since it is made of wood products it is not durable compared to nylon. In fact it had the tendency to melt in the event of fire and not colorfast free compared to olefin. If necessary, frequent washing this type of rug is discouraged as it tends to have color runs if it becomes wet.

Acrylic

A great alternative for wool area rugs and carpets, though it is a nice soft, resilient material, fiber tends to fuzz and pull easily. Advantage is holds color well even for a long time of usage.

Nylon

One of the materials most used for synthetic area rugs is the nylon because of its stain and soil resistant quality aside from the fact that a rug made of nylon is easy to clean and durable. Once can attest its resiliency by crushing it by heavy furniture without any hint or deformity; it will just bounce back to its original shape.

Nylon area rugs are low cost alternative to natural flooring materials. But if a homeowner is more concerned with quality then nylon rugs might not satisfy your expectation, great choice for family rooms and dens.

Viscose

Another product made from wood products and a low cost alternative for silk area rugs. Noted for its shiny quality, but cannot retain its shine if placed in high traffic areas and is not the most durable fiber. Viscose made rugs are recommended in secluded area or lesser used rooms such as dining and living rooms.
