Pressbox (Press Release) - London, 20 November, 2000: Lawson Software today announced a $2 million (approximately £1.5 million) contract with Trinity Mirror, the UK's largest newspaper publisher with 176 titles, including The Mirror, which is read by over 5.7 million people daily. Trinity Mirror will use Lawson's e-business solutions for financials, procurement, analytics and e-commerce to streamline processes for more efficient operations, to significantly enhance the quality of financial information within the Group and to achieve flexibility and savings from an integrated solution.
Trinity Mirror chose Lawson over Oracle, PeopleSoft and JD Edwards based on the strength of Lawson's Web-based architecture, flexible core reporting, personalised Web-entry screens and significantly lower total cost of ownership over the other enterprise application vendors.

This contract is a major addition to Lawson's substantial client base in the global publishing/media sector and demonstrates Lawson's expertise in meeting the dynamic and rapidly changing e-business needs of today's media organisations. Some of Lawson's blue-chip clients in this industry include Boosey & Hawkes, international music and media publisher; Gannett, the international news and information company and publisher of USA Today; and The Future Network Plc, the fourth largest magazine publisher in the UK.
Andy McGreevy, financial controller, Trinity Mirror Shared Services, who lead the selection team, says: "The team's decision to choose Lawson was unanimous. Lawson's technological strength, including its flexibility and scalability, was very impressive. Lawson has proven professionalism and expertise in the publishing sector and clearly understands the needs of this industry. As over 2000 Group employees will be using Lawson software everyday, we wanted a system that was Web-enabled, could be personalised and was easy to use with minimal training. Lawson came out the frontrunner and we are looking forward to a long and rewarding relationship."
Trinity Mirror employs some 12,000 staff and operates a variety of digital media including a national Internet Service Provider (ISP) and more than 60 websites.
Lawson's 360-degree e-business solution will be sited in a new Group Shared Service Organisation (GSSO) based in Chester, UK and accessed via the Web by all Trinity Mirror's businesses. The first phase of the implementation will concentrate primarily on finance and procurement functionality, as these are the operations used on a day-to-day basis. Phase two of the project will include Web self-service, analytics and e-commerce modules.
Trinity Mirror will use its Lawson e-business solutions to achieve business efficiencies throughout the extended organisation, consolidating, streamlining and improving financial and procurement processes by replacing its legacy system infrastructure. Lawson's Web self-service solutions will empower the Group's employees with real-time access and control of the information they need to make strategic decisions. Trinity Mirror will run its Lawson solutions on an IBM RS/6000 platform.

"Lawson's vertical market strategy of delivering e-business and e-commerce functionality to specific business sectors has allowed it to become a key solutions provider in the publishing and media industry," said Chris Hodge, managing director, International Operations, Lawson Software. "The contract win with Trinity Mirror, extends Lawson's lead among global media organisations, which are benefiting from Lawson's flexible, multi-tier architecture and front-to-back office integration features to expand operations quickly and develop e-commerce solutions in a highly competitive market."
Implementation of lawson.insight™ financials and procurement will begin in November 2000 with McGreevy as project lead.
