Pressbox (Press Release) -
‘Stranger Things meets The Famous Five… with guns’ is how Alan Hendrick’s stunning debut novel has been described by blown-away reviewers.
The Dublin author’s gripping first instalment of his planned trilogy has been awarded a lengthy string of rave five-star reviews by critics.
Jenson and the Dreamers has been labelled ‘one amazing book’, ‘one of the most thrilling books I’ve read’ and ‘thoroughly engrossing’ by readers.
And fellow critic Emma Houston added: “Hands down the best book I’ve read in a long time.”
Alan, who is a former member of boy band InFocus, admits the thumbs up from his twin brother gave him the confidence to publish Jenson and the Dreamers.
The 39-year-old award-winning poet explained: “My brother was the first person to read the draft of Jenson and the Dreamers.”
“He can be a difficult pleaser when it comes to books, but he loved it.”
“I figured I could be onto a winner from there on in.”
“I also had some friends read it who have been blown away, especially for it being my first book.”
Jenson and the Dreamers is a fast-paced adventure which follows the fortunes of 15-year-old Jenson Rose who is puzzled by his inability to dream.
In a world where dreams can be dangerous – with an upsurge in people dying in their sleep – Jenson may hold answers for preventing further nocturnal fatalities.
But, along with other non-dreamers, Jenson has been forced to go on the run from ‘Stem Industries’, who will stop at nothing to find a cure for deaths in the Dream World.
Jenson and the Dreamers is a highly imaginative and thoroughly enjoyable thriller where twists and turns are never too far away.
Alan admits the idea for the entire trilogy came from his own dreaming.
He explained: “The idea just came to me one night when I had a vivid dream.”
“It was so real, I sat up and started to write about it at 4am in the morning - it was the alien apocalypse, and I was in an army. I even woke up screaming just as I was being killed.”
“I then said I would start to write down my dreams, but that actually led me to start writing this book and asking what if dreams were actually real within our subconscious, and what if our souls do actually drift off to a Dream World.
“So as the myth that once was, is now proven - if we die in our dreams, we really do die in reality.”
Alan, who is the older brother of Newcastle United midfielder Jeff Hendrick, toured with acts such as Westlife, Steps, Sugar Babes and Atomic Kitten during the late 90s when part of InFocus.
He has recently relocated from Dublin to Northern Ireland to head up a call centre, but his ‘Dream’ is in writing.
Alan is currently working on the second book in The Jenson Rose Trilogy – ‘The Last Gateway’, which should be out before Christmas.
