Award-winning novelist Janet Scaife is making up for lost time with yet another five-star rated romance.
The 72-year-old from Derbyshire, who was inspired to pick up the pen once more by the ghost of Catherine Cookson, didn’t give up on her dead-end account’s office job until middle age.
Having produced bestselling romantic fiction, including the Romantic Novelists’ New Writer of the Year winner The Perfect Pirate, during the 1990s she decided to take a break.
And it wasn’t until the part-time psychic had an experience with the late Catherine Cookson eighteen months after the author had died that Janet was persuaded perhaps she should return to novel writing.
Her latest page-turner, Sarah-Jane’s Secret, has yet again been met with five-star reviews from captivated readers.
Janet said: “Sarah-Jane’s Secret is about a girl who escapes her abusive mother and unexpectedly meets a local farmer’s son.
“The repercussions of this meeting will follow her all of her life.
“Sarah-Jane’s Secret is the story of a girl from a penniless childhood – the daughter of a drunken jailbird – who makes her own rash decisions.
“It’s also the story of a woman who must keep a very precious secret.”
Since the recent publication of Sarah-Jane’s Secret it has been described by critics as an ‘excellent, heart-warming story’ and having ‘depth and understanding’.
Reviewer Jenny Gilbert stated: “Congratulations on another great read – already looking forward to the next book.”
Janet has written six books since her paranormal experience with Catherine Cookson during a visit to Newcastle.
The mum-of-three explained: “I am a psychic medium and I did meet Catherine Cookson after she had died.
“My daughter was doing a PhD at Newcastle University and I had been to see her.
“I was waiting for the train and went into a little cafe for a coffee.
“I sat at a table for two in the far corner and hadn't been sitting there long when I realized the empty chair across the table was suddenly occupied.
“I looked up and Dame Catherine was sitting with me.
“At the time I was not writing at all, and I got what can only be called an ear bashing - she told me very clearly to ‘get back down there and get writing’.”
Janet has already begun work on her next romantic novel.
