Pressbox (Press Release) - Pupils around Worcestershire may no longer have her words of wisdom to fall back on, but Samantha Morris is providing support once more with the release of her first book.
The recently retired child psychotherapist has just released the five-star-rated Miss, Can I Speak to You to critical acclaim.
As well as attracting a string of glowing reviews, Samantha’s easy-to-follow guide has also reached the top five in Amazon’s children’s charts.
Miss, Can I Speak to You is a collection of conversations which deal with everything from friendships, bereavement and phobias to exam fears, depression and identity.
And it promotes resilience, responsibility and self-awareness for young people who come to the pages with varying issues.
Samantha said: “Miss, Can I Speak to You is a unique twist on a mental health book for professionals, parents and young people.
“It is based around ten conversations drawn from my experience as a therapist.
“Every chapter is based on a different issue important to young people.
“The book is light-hearted, warm and at times funny.
“Right from the start each character’s personality and issue is apparent, each chapter leaves you with a better understanding of what young people go through, but more importantly what to say and do next to support them.”
After graduating with a master’s degree from Nottingham University, Samantha set up her own practice to provide counselling and support for school children.
Her services and help were in demand across many primary and secondary schools, eventually leading her to launch her own mental health charity, Safe with Sam.
Prior to retiring Samantha worked as a pastoral leader in a large secondary school.
With the freedom of retirement comes the time to finally start writing – and the 55-year-old’s first book has already made an impact.
Samantha added: “Thankfully everyone who has read the book so far has been extremely positive.
“They have all commented that from the beginning they were able to engage with the characters, their personalities and the issues they brought to me.
“They felt it was a good book to dip in and out of especially if needed quickly.
“Most who read it say they want to know what happened to the characters after the conversations ended.”
Reviewers have described Miss, Can I Speak to You as ‘brilliant’, ‘very helpful’ and ‘important’.
Following the success of Miss, Can I Speak to You, Samantha is considering writing a second book.
