Pressbox (Press Release) -
After a lifetime of compiling funding applications, a recently retired business manager from Wiltshire has turned her hand to writing a book.
Becky Bradshaw’s debut novel, My Girl, has just been published to five-star reader reviews.
But the 59-year-old mum of two admits she can’t remember where the inspiration for her gripping and original love story came from.
Becky added: “I honestly don’t know where the idea for my book came from.
“My Girl focuses on the main characters Neil and Christa.
“Both come from loving families but their upbringings differ greatly.
“They meet as young adults with Neil instantly finding Christa irresistibly attractive.
“However, she shows no interest in him and, in any case, there are complications.
“Life-changing events result in their paths crossing over many years with a firm friendship gradually developing.
“However, can he win the heart of the one woman who is seemingly out of his reach?”
My Girl is an engrossing tale of relationships and how the characters’ formative years have a lasting impact on those around them.
Tragedy and triumph regularly brings together Neil and Christa in this authoritative and highly entertaining novel.
Becky has enjoyed plenty of writing practice as a tennis columnist.
Every week she filled the sports pages of her local newspaper with her Tennis by Topspin tales from the courts.
But following her retirement last year she’s had much more time to concentrate on her stunning romantic novel.
Becky, who has also written for education and leisure publications, explained: “I retired over a year ago.
“Since I retired it has become far easier to find time to write - prior to retirement it was difficult to fit writing in.
“I am happy writing anywhere, as long as I have my laptop or i-pad handy.”
Becky tested the water by allowing several friends to read the manuscript draft of My Girl – and they all gave it a thumbs-up.
My Girl has also received five-star reader reviews since its publication.
Jenny Atkinson described it as an ‘excellent book’.
She added: “I read this book whilst on holiday and wasn't sure what to expect from this new writer but I wasn't disappointed.
“Can't wait for the next book.”
