Pressbox (Press Release) - What if we have NO Nature?

Nothing has changed after COP26. Humans are rapidly eroding the natural planet, and very soon beautiful images will become a thing of the past. So what can we show our grandchildren if they cannot learn from exploring the little things that live around us?

Nature is fragile, beautiful, ugly and harsh; but in every form, it is beyond precious – is the simple message contained in Clare Newton’s new book, the Colour of Silence. We all turn a blind eye towards the accumulation of waste, But it has the be shown - as a reality, to persuade people it is really happening. The book slowly unravels towards the inevitability and the enormity of the problem.

“The beautiful thing about photography is that it focuses our attention with greater immediacy. It captures a moment in the world so easily missed as our heads are buried into our phones even when we walk. With photography we can bear witness to the many changes in our environment that are in full swing - but gently guides us towards understanding that it has now become an urgent matter to take care of it - starting with the insects under our feet as we walk.” Newton explains.

Colour of Silence is an illustrated insight of the simple things in nature that surrounds us, exploring the many facets from the restorative values nature offers, to delving into how history has influenced our discoveries. The images take an artistic point of view, which peels back a trail of informative beauty to the ugly realities of waste.

REVIEW
Dr Mark Avery co-founder of Wild Justice
“Open the book at almost any page and you will find pleasant and arresting images, often close-ups of plants. And on many pages there are some thoughtful words. The cover gives a good impression of the quality of the images inside the book, and I like it.”

Contributor quotes

Emma Marsh: “Nature is in free-fall decline; the last decade has been a lost one for its recovery. Sadly 41% of wildlife species in Great Britain are declining and 15% are at threat of extinction. We are truly at risk of losing some of our most iconic birds and animals – already the eerie call of the curlew is fading fast from the landscapes of England, not to mention the much-loved hedgehog from our gardens.”

John Parker: “Nature is not a ‘Nice-to-have’ – ever.
It provides our life-support system”
