West Midlands writer delights young readers with book

A shopfloor joke has led to a West Midlands car components worker becoming an overnight sensation with young readers.
Lynda Ann Green produced her hugely popular debut book, Mr Nolly and the Magic Ladder, back in 2017 to critical acclaim.
And now the 52-year-old has returned with the second instalment of her planned trilogy – yet again to a string of five-star reviews from the critics.
Lynda Ann admits the original idea for her magical adventures began with a few throw away lines at the factory where she works.
She explained: “I got the idea for Mr Nolly and the Magic Ladderfrom two work colleagues a few years ago.
“We were at work and my friend David had been given a brand-new pair of step ladders as part of his job.
“To our amusement, he became quite attached to them and wouldn’t let anyone else use them.
“One day, another colleague jokingly made the comment that ‘anyone would think those ladders had magical properties the way Dave holds on to them’.
“He then turned to me saying, ‘You could write a book about this!’.”
Following on from her hugely successful debut, Lynda Ann has returned with the second part of her trilogy, Mr Nolly and the Magic Ladder II : The Perils of WitchWillowberry.
The second book throws Ecky the Magic Ladder into a dangerous mission to rescue Witch Willowberry from evil Wizard Alderyn.
Yet again the enjoyable adventure story features odd-job man, Mr Nolly, and his loveable cat, Sam.
But, as young readers will find out, Mr Nolly and the Magic Ladder II: The Perils of WitchWillowberry will test Ecky to his extendable limits
Lynda Ann added: “Wizard Alderyn’s Castle Deimos sits on a huge storm cloud, high up in the sky.
“He wants to take WitchWillowberry’s spell book which he believes rightfully belongs to him.
“He also needs her to help him with a spell that will make him the most powerful warlock in the world of magic.
“Mr Nolly, Ecky and their friends set out on a long adventure which brings fun, tears and twists along the way.”
Although aimed specifically at children, the Mr Nolly and the Magic Ladder series is equally appealing to adult readers.
Reviewers have described the second instalment as being ‘simply magical’, ‘wonderfully enchanting’, and ‘takes the mind off this awful lockdown’.
Reviewer Jessica Davies, aged 10, stated: “You should definitely read this.”
Lynda Ann, who lives with her two cats, is currently working on the final part of the Mr Nolly and the Magic Ladder series.
