An internationally-acclaimed Israeli academic has pieced together the puzzles that shaped the political landscape throughout the 20th century to reach the top of the book charts.
Yoav J Tenembaum has based his latest publication, Turning Points in the History of International Relations: 1908-2008, on the international relations lectures he has delivered at universities in Israel, America and Britain.
The 60-year-old from Tel Aviv, who holds a doctorate in Modern History from Oxford and a master’s degree in International Relations from Cambridge, has already gained a reputation as an expert on the crucial moments that shaped present-day international relations.
And this compelling new study, which has reached number one in Amazon’s Historical Reference and Historical Essays charts, will have cemented his position as a leading authority.
Yoav said: “History is a puzzle of events - the historian and political scientist afford coherence to those events.
“Understanding turning points in the history of international relations lends significance to those events, thus helping to enhance their coherence and understanding.
“Turning Points in the History of International Relations: 1908-2008 is based on my lectures at university level over the years.
“I have taught courses and seminars on International Crises, International Conflicts, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution in Modern History, the Shaping of Foreign Policy and Decision-Making, International Organizations and Institutions – Theory and History and on the Role of the National Security Adviser in the United States from 1947 to 2016.
“My book reflects some of my conclusions from the various courses and seminars I have taught.”
Dr Tenembaum shines an enthralling light on the most significant pacts, speeches, appointments and declarations of war in his five-star-rated study.
Turning Points in the History of International Relations: 1908-2008 also takes an in-depth look at the reasons behind and the consequences of conflicts such as the Bosnian Crisis, World War I, the Bolshevik Revolution, the German invasion of Czechoslavakia, the Islamic Revolution in Iran, and the Falklands-Malvinas crisis.
Yoav also looks at the implications of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the Partition of British India, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and 9/11.
Dr Tenembaum added: “Following a conceptual definition of what a turning point is, Turning Points in the History of International Relations: 1908-2008 dwells concisely and in an analytical manner on some of the principal turning points in the history of international relations from 1908 to 2008.
“The aim is to understand what a turning point in the history of international relations is and assess in a thought-provoking, amenable manner a number of notable cases.”
Since the release of Turning Points in the History of International Relations: 1908-2008 it has been described by reviewers as ‘brilliant’, ‘an easy read’ and ‘fascinating’.
Away from lecturing, Yoav is an accomplished and award-winning poet.
Born in Argentina, Yoav has studied and lectured in Britain and the United States as well as Israel.
