Surrey writer’s murder tale in seedy underworld

Pressbox (Press Release) - Fans of Surrey author Mal Foster have grown to realise that no subject is taboo when it comes to his gripping novels.
The 66-year-old former journalist, has explored lunatic asylums, domestic abuse, the paranormal and even the death of Princes Di in his highly rated thrillers.
Mal’s latest offering enters the seedy underworld of bondage and sexual dominants with The Story of Virna Babineaux.
The gripping novel has already been described as ‘great’, ‘intriguing’ and ‘compelling’ by captivated reviewers.
Mal said: “Virna Babineaux, a once famous glamour model/turned prostitute, is stabbed to death in a southeast London brothel.
“Several years later, her corpse remains unclaimed until it is inexplicably discovered missing by mortuary staff.
“Strange goings-on at the victim's former luxury home in Surrey then arouse the interest of local police.”
As with his previous novels, which include The Asylum Soul, Fluke’s Cradle and An Invisible Nemesis, Mal’s pacing, his characterisation, and his explosive story lines make The Story of Virna Babineaux a rewarding read.
The Story of Virna Babineaux follows the investigation by journalist Daniel Blue as he attempts to piece together the puzzle of Virna’s missing body.
With help from his former lover – DI Sue Grendel - he must enter the relatively unknown world of BDSM to close in on the answers they both need to solve the case.
Mal explains: “The police case is dropped before the initial investigation into concerns about Virna’s former home is completed.
“Had there been a possible connection with the missing body?
“Investigating officer DI Sue Grendel is furious as she believes she was close to solving the mystery.
“Against her better judgement, she tips off her former lover, the wayward journalist Daniel Blue, urging him to bag a good story.
“Daniel feels he is on nothing more than a wild goose chase until he inadvertently enters a whole new world of BDSM.”
Prior to writing his debut novel in 2015, Mal was already a well-respected poet.
Throughout the 1980s he won three young poet awards, and he went on to edit the poetry magazine Wire for close to a decade.
His eulogical poem about the demise of Aldershot FC, Death of a Football Club, appeared in the best-selling anthology Versus United.
And The Wedding was included in the Australian education authority’s secondary school anthology, Poetry Unlocked.
