Pressbox (Press Release) - Aspiring novelists are normally told they should plan and plot well in advance of diving into the writing part.
But 66-year-old wife and mum Lesley Hudnott threw the manual out the window to pen her debut novel, Home is Just a Feeling.
She has been rewarded with a stunning page-turner that has reached the top three of Amazon’s Urban Fiction chart as well as attracting a five-star review.
Lesley, who lives in the Penzance area with her husband, admits Home is Just a Feeling was a gamble.
She explained: “I didn't actually start with much of an idea for the book, I just fancied having a go.
“Having a beginning and an end, I just sat at the computer each day and wrote whatever entered my head.
“Sometimes I deleted work, but mostly I just developed it, to see how things went.
“Most of Home is Just a Feeling has turned out to be a surprise for me – but it’s also been a very enjoyable experience.”
Home is Just a Feeling tells the story of an outcast daughter returning to the town of her youth to help bury her mother.
What Cassie Harrington finds in Heatherbridge is a long-held family mystery crying out to be solved.
Home is Just a Feeling beautifully explores the complexities of families and friends and how secrets can fester and prove harmful.
Lesley, who has set her first book in her native south-west, added: “Home is Just a Feeling primarily concentrates on the intricacies of human relationships.
“I feel that it demonstrates the equal power of bonds, whether forged from happy or adverse circumstances.
“I’d like to think my book is characterful, displaying humanity at its best and worst.
“Friends have read Home is Just a Feeling and enjoyed it - hopefully, they weren't just being kind.”
Readers have described Lesley’s debut novel as ‘very well-written’ and ‘full of twists and turns’.
It was only after the publication of Home is Just a Feeling that Lesley discovered her great-grandmother was a poet.
Although she intends to continue writing following the success of her debut novel, Lesley isn’t considering a sequel for Home is Just a Feeling.
