Pressbox (Press Release) - New Nottinghamshire author Geoff Chandler has issued a chilling warning to the bereaved in his stunning debut novel, Cloaking His Darkness.
Geoff’s gripping new thriller exposes a fatal flaw in laws and restrictions governing the funeral industry.
Geoff explained: “Carers, schoolteachers, police officers and people in the prison service are all vetted so why, from my experience, are celebrants not.
“To gain an insight into the industry surrounding bereavement I worked as a celebrant.
“Cloaking His Darkness is a story that underlines how devastating an impact a fraudster can have on grieving families – people who are at their most vulnerable.
“The book demonstrates how a loophole in the law can be used to someone’s advantage - potentially allowing the bereaved to be targeted.”
Cloaking His Darkness is a stunning psychological thriller which follows the exploits of charming former soldier, Peter North.
Scarred by the trauma of war, he is hell-bent on inflicting pain on others, while also emptying their bank accounts.
When taking up employment as a celebrant, North sets out to exploit the most vulnerable with a series of scams.
Cloaking His Darkness is a dark and disturbing novel that is both gripping and worrying.
Geoff added: “Peter has found the perfect platform for his inner darkness to surface – he’s a broken soul who is given unsupervised access to the bereaved.
“Uniquely, Cloaking His Darkness sets out to explore a scam that hopefully no one, as yet, has dared to consider.
“The book questions the implicit trust we put in people, particularly at a time of loss, and it reveals a loophole in the law.
“Cloaking His Darkness is a story that underlines how devastating an impact the consequences could have of such a scam.”
Geoff, who has served in the military and worked as a teacher, is influenced by authors such as Lee Childs, Steven King and C J Sansom.
