Marbella booze battler celebrates book success

A former forensic scientist from Glasgow has discovered the sobering formula to reach the top of the book charts.
Georgie Wethers left the rainy west coast of Scotland for the sun of Spain after beating the bottle almost three years ago.
The 56-year-old, who was a finger-prints expert, celebrated a first year on the wagon by writing the five-star Sober Truths No More Lies.
And now, after completing a second alcohol-free year, Georgie has produced another insightful account of sobriety.
Sobriety = Contentment has just reached number one in Amazon’s health charts.
He said: “Sobriety = Contentment is my second year journey, the ups and downs, the highs and lows.
“No one said it would be easy but with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous I have a sober life now - a life full of new friends, new opportunities and above all the one thing I didn’t have for years, now I have contentment.
“The message I want Sobriety = Contentment to give to readers is that AA is not just for one year for an alcoholic.
“It becomes a requirement and can provide a new wonderful way of life - in one word ‘contentment’.”
It was back in 2015 that Georgie was given the wake-up call after secret heavy drinking had led to a serious case of cirrhosis.
Warnings that life would be over in two to five years if he didn’t stop drinking prompted immediate changes.
Georgie, who now calls Marbella home, won rich praise for the honest first-year journal, Sober Truths No More Lies.
Captivated readers described it as a ‘very open and honest’ ‘a great book’ and ‘there is hope for all after reading this’.
It was the reaction from those readers that encouraged him to continue writing after the second year sober.
Georgie added: “The reactions to the first book included surprise, admiration for honesty, keeping it simple and delight at my progress following my own ‘program’.
“Many people encouraged me to keep recording my journey of sobriety that continues to help alcoholics and non-alcoholics.”
Since moving to Spain Georgie prefers to spend most mornings typing up the continuing battle against the bottle.
And he is currently planning a third book later this year to mark a third year of being sober.
