Pressbox (Press Release) - An advertising executive from Manchester is plugging a change in career after publishing his thrilling first book.
For the past three decades copywriter Steve Cranshaw has harboured an ambition to become a full-time novelist.
The 56-year-old, who runs his own creative agency, has finally published No Longer with Us after winning a short-story competition.
He explained: “An acting group in Bath ran a competition for spooky short stories - the best of which they would read out and perform at Halloween.
“Mine was one of only a few chosen and it encouraged me to turn my short story into a long one.
“I loved English throughout my school days and writing has been my occupation for most of my adult life but I decided it was time to write for fun and enjoyment – hence my first novel.
“I’d like to be able to devote more time for writing however work and home life tend to get in the way.
“It would be my dream job to be able to write novels for a living.”
No Longer with Us is a grippingly eerie story of how seven people end up lying dead on morgue slabs in an English hospital.
Mortuary technician Colin Wilkinson gets a lot more than he was expecting when he clocked on for his shift at the hospital.
The ghosts of each corpse decide to confide in him.
No Longer with Us is a complex, interwoven horror packed with twists, turns and more than a few chilling coincidences.
Steve, who is married with two children, added: “The book recounts how each of the seven met their death and, in some instances, how one demise is linked to another.
“We discover the destiny of all the spirits and the only one among them who is still living.
“The reaction from family and friends who have read No Longer with Us has been very positive.”
Readers have also given No Longer with Us rave reviews.
It has been described as ‘creepy’, ‘great’ and ‘amazing writing and plot’.
Away from writing his book and work, Steve has completed four marathons.
He is currently plotting a second novel.
