London mum’s first book praised by reviewers

Added: (Fri Jul 09 2021)

Pressbox (Press Release) - Embarrassed London mum Hetta Rowe has finally published her debut novelette despite being too afraid to read her work out loud.
But the tight-lipped 41-year-old has been rewarded with a string of five-star reviews for the sensual and steamy Luminous Nights.
Hetta, who has composed poetry since childhood, used the escapism of writing her first full-length fiction to cope with the restrictions of parenthood.
Luminous Nights has been described by enthralled reviewers as ‘fast paced and entertaining’, ‘sexy’, and ‘awesome’.
Buoyed by the reaction to her first published work, coy Hetta is already considering turning her novelette into part of a series.
She explained: “I was looking out at the London skyline one night, slightly pining for the evenings out I'd had before parenthood and thought ‘Well, if I can’t get to London, maybe London can come to me’, so I picked up a pen and began to write.
“When I started writing Luminous Nights, it was a lovely comfort zone to retreat to at the end of each day.
“I took part in a writing group, but I was embarrassed to share my writing and read it aloud - it was utterly fascinating to listen to everyone else.
“I will definitely write another book and would love to create a series.”
Luminous Nights follows the fortunes of work-colleagues-turned-lovers who are often separated by vast distances.
Passionate reunions and the constant air of foreboding over future separation are beautifully portrayed in Hetta’s debut.
Deliberately left without names, ages or physical descriptions, readers of Luminous Nights are invited to imagine themselves as one of the protagonists.
Hetta explained: “The characters are free of names and ages so the reader is free to imagine the lovers’ characteristics for themselves.
“The lovers are separated through work and they travel to distant shores – and their separation makes them question what they truly want.
“Will the world prove too wide for them to return to each other?
“It is a sensual and intimate book of desire, determination and freedom.”
Hetta, who lists Maya Angelou, Christina Rosetti, WB Yeats and Shakespeare as her favourite writers, was first encouraged to write by her English teacher.
As well as writing Luminous Nights, she also painted all of the illustrations.
