Pressbox (Press Release) -
A London film director has climbed back into the saddle for his latest gripping wartime novel.
Keen cyclist Michael T Joyfitt, who grew up in Bulgaria, has just released the stunning romantic-thriller, Racing Hearts.
And he has set his eve-of-war drama on the racing roads of 1938 France.
For protagonist Remi, the possible cancellation of the Le Tour is the least of his problems as the threat from Nazi Germany intensifies.
Author Michael believes that the humour and humanity of victims of war can best be told from somewhere like the saddle.
He explained: “I love cycling, I practically grew up on a bike.
“I watched a documentary once about an Auschwitz survivor.
“He said he never liked the big dramatic films about the Holocaust as they never got to the heart of what kept all those people inside believing.
“He said it was the humour and the ability to see any situation from a light-hearted angle – laugh and move on.
“Racing Hearts combines that humour amidst the horrors, but ultimately it is a love story.”
Since the release of Racing Hearts it has attracted a string of five-star reviews.
Michael’s beautifully written latest novel has been described as ‘very well researched’, ‘a good-hearted story’, and ‘left me hungry for more’.
Reviewer Adam K stated: “I loved the combination of concepts of WW2 and elite cycling and learnt something about both.”
Michael, who has lived in London for the past 25 years, became a star in his native Bulgaria following the release of his debut novel, Lycra Rebel, as well as his feature films.
The talented writer had written Firefall before he’d even graduated from the Courtyard Drama School - going on to produce, direct and cast a run of the highly-rated stage play at the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn.
Although Michael still writes screenplays and directs films, his most recent successes have come from his novels.
He hopes Racing Hearts, with its underlying themes of friendship and betrayal, will act as inspiration for readers.
Michael added: “Whatever way you look at it, this book seeks to ignite fire in your belly, inspiring you to do more with your life - day after day, without the excuses.
“And with a smile on your face.”
