Pressbox (Press Release) -
A one time a Lancashire barber is now enjoying close shaves with bookstores after becoming a leading novelist.
Lawrence Bell used to spend his time trimming and restyling from his Bolton chair.
But after hanging up the clippers, he is now emerging as one of the country’s must-read thriller writers.
Having just published his fourth novel since picking up the pen seven years ago, Lawrence has already built up a loyal following.
Black Apple is his latest convincing adventure story – this time set in the months leading up to the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers in New York.
The father-of-two said: “I started writing when I suddenly had time on my hands...it was something that I always wanted to do..."
“I was in New York back in 1977, and I dined at the Window on the World restaurant, which was right at the top of the North Tower...a phenomenal building."
“Never, ever, did I think that something as terrible as 9/11 could ever take place?
“I wanted to write something about 9/11, which I actually consider to be one of the worst ever acts to humanity, outside of a declared war.”
The fast-paced page turner follows Adam Tyler, from a comfortable life as a banker in Barcelona to the murky world of money laundering in America’s financial heartland.
Lawrence added: “The addiction of falling in love begins the downward spiral for Adam Tyler".
“The woman he falls in love with is part of an organisation who launder drug money through the bank where he works.
“Fleeing Barcelona, he attempts to rebuild his career and life in New York. However, everything doesn’t quite go to plan...as the 9/11 disaster creates irreversible consequences for him and everyone he knows.”
Like Lawrence’s previous action-packed thrillers, Black Apple has already attracted a string of five-star reviews from captivated readers.
Black Apple has been described by enthusiastic readers as ‘brilliant’, ‘another great novel’, and as having a ‘superb twist at the end’.
Reviewer Paul Thomas added: “… the chapters leave you guessing what’s coming next.”
Lawrence’s previous novels are Shiny Scissors (2015), Pavel’s Gift (2017), and Eagles and Red Poppies (2019)
