Pressbox (Press Release) -
A celebrated psychologist-turned-author is helping everyone overcome the past year with his own child-like allegory of the pandemic – and the many other problems of our time.
Dr Billy Conn spent four decades working with some of the country’s most evil child abusers – as well as their victims.
The internationally respected Kent-based psychologist used his vast experience to shift careers and start crafting gritty and realistic novels.
Under his own name, as well as his pseudonym Kingsley Cross, he has released ten highly rated thrillers over the past seven years.
But now Dr Conn has produced perhaps his most original work to date.
The Just Not So Stories; A Book for Little Children called Adults is a cynical and thought-provoking examination of modern life.
Dr Conn explained: “Once upon a time, in a land so close that it is here, and at a time that is now, there came a sickness that spread faster than a rumour of sexual misconduct.
“To save all, would the Elders of the Seven Tribes send children across the quicksands of cancel culture, even into the landmined valley of political correctness and beyond, and finally risk them being deafened by the explosive self-applause of the watchful woke whose only nourishment was their self-righteousness and the blood of the freedoms they had drained from others.
“With no cure in sight the tribes faced a situation in which their livelihoods had gone and bartering lies for false hopes replaced currency.”
Dr Conn has used all of his psychological expertise to produce a stunning analysis of modern society in the grips of a pandemic.
Having originally moved into writing to help spread the word about paedophiles and their victims, his most recent work is a stark reminder of faults we all have.
He added: “For some 40 years I worked with the children, their families and the abusers.
“The nature of the abuse I dealt with ranged from isolated incidents to more organised and systematic paedophile rings, sometimes involving people in positions of influence and power.
“Coming to the conclusion that a case-by-case approach or writing in arcane journals was unlikely to have the impact needed to help the wider public understand what is going on, I came to feel a need to expose the full horror of the world of so many victims, to the widest possible scrutiny.
“I decided to share my experiences in the form of my first trilogy which presented an account from the different perspectives of police, parents, schools, lawyers, social workers, the perpetrators and crucially the child victims.
“The Just Not So Stories looks at a different type of problem we are all facing - would the questing openness of children succeed where the petty tyrannies of predatory ideologies had failed?
“These are The Just Not So Stories.”
Dr Conn was born, educated and trained as a psychologist in Ireland before moving to England to practise.
Under his own name he has released To Kill One, By Tasnim Waters and The Zaqqum Tree as the Sleepers of the Cave trilogy.
He also published The Owned, The Garden of Lost Remembering, The Murder Club, and The Pupil.
Under the name Kingsley Cross he has released The Sisterhood of Vipers, And Nothing But the Night, and And the Counting of the Dead.
