Pressbox (Press Release) - A retired musician from Gloucestershire was inspired to write her remarkable debut novel by the hero uncle she never met.
Frances Storey has just published her stunning first book, I Dreamed of Juno Again.
The gripping five-star suspense thriller is packed with absorbing supernatural twists ignited by the attempted sale of an historic family home.
But I Dream of Juno Again never steers too far away from its historical foundations – inspired by the author’s late uncle.
Frances, who is a grandmother of two, explained: “I got the idea for I Dreamed of Juno Again because I had a hero uncle who gave his life for King and Country as a 48 Royal Marine Commando on D-Day during the Juno beach landings.
“I was born a few years after he died so I never met him, but I think of his sacrifice every day.
“I Dreamed of Juno Again pays tribute to an entire generation of people the like of whom will never come again."
I Dreamed of Juno Again, which is set around Frances’s native Cotswolds, is a highly original and compelling story of a thread which ties the D-Day landings with a picturesque valley.
Following the death of their grandmother, siblings Fiona and William decide to sell the family home.
Unwittingly, they set in motion a sequence of strange events and coincidences as everyone involved in the sale falls under a spell.
Frances, who is in her 60s, added: “Family, friends and all those involved with the sale of Rose Cottage seem to fall under the spell which leads to some shocking occurrences and an almost inevitable conclusion.
“But what is the connection between the harrowing D-Day landings at Juno beach and the tranquillity of a magical Cotswold valley?”
Since its publication, I Dreamed of Juno Again, has received five-star reader reviews.
In its reviews, it has been described as ‘compulsive reading’, offering ‘a wonderful feeling for the characters’, and ‘a good read’.
Reader Anne Weaver added: “It combines nostalgia with gritty realism and then adds a dash of intrigue and supernatural.
“It has romance, reminiscence, sensitive humour and some shocking elements in the story that left me reeling from the emotions it evoked.”
Frances, who recently took flying lessons in a Piper Warrior aircraft, is currently plotting a sequel to I Dreamed of Juno Again based on her father’s airborne heroics during World War II.
