THE RED SPADE GALLERY
This is the first major show at the Red Spade Gallery, and although not on home turf (due to size restrictions), it promises to be a good one.
The group consists of five young female artists working in the Birmingham area; Hannah Carvell, Rebecca Hector, Karin Khilberg, Debbie Mingham and Helen Street. The work in the show uses diverse media to explore the different ways in which these five artists have interpreted our and their different environments. Issues involved are conflict in the domestic environment, and questions about the visual context of the white cube, and, work featured includes multimedia cine-film projection and live performance.
This is a show not to be missed, especially if you are keen to see a fresh perspective on the contemporary art scene, which will be seen here in abundance.
The show is curated by Helen Street, and co-curated by Neil Wiseman, both of the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design.
The view is on Tuesday the 27th of November, from 6 to 7pm, in the space above Jacob’s Photographic shop on Corporation Street, Birmingham. The show will continue to run until the 31st of November from 9 to 5. Admission is free.
