Expat estate agent constructs well-received novel

Pressbox (Press Release) - French estate agent Harry Dean has just laid the foundations for his writing career with a five-star-rated debut novel.
Thatch has been described by enthusiastic reviewers as an ‘excellent debut’, ‘a good laugh’, and ‘a breath of fresh air’.
Critic Sharon Salter stated: “I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and the twists and turns.”
Inspired by authors such as Stephen King, Lee Child, Robert Harris and Tom Sharpe, Harry first picked up the pen during lockdown.
His highly imaginative plot, masterful characterisation and perfect pacing has made Thatch instantly popular with a growing readership.
The 61-year-old said: “My youngest son kept wittering on at me about starting to write as he thought I’d find it therapeutic during lockdown. That it would give him free rein of our distinctly sub-optimal internet connection was never, of course, part of the calculation.
“I tested Thatch out on a couple of retired journalists I know as well as some well read friends – and everyone was very positive.”
Thatch follows the fortunes of a retired detective after his dull routine is suddenly brightened up with the discovery of a body outside his home village.
While modern policing struggles to make much progress with the death, the eponymous hero finds himself on the trail of international criminals.
Harry’s gripping page-turner takes Thatch into the sordid world of dot-com finance and eastern European drug gangs.
Harry explained: “Thatch has a terrible thirst, an ever expanding waistline, a dog and an estranged wife. A heart condition too. And now he's got an unsolved crime on his doorstep so, with little else for the retired detective to do other than wait for opening time or potter about in the garden, this is a good thing.
“Yes, granted, there's a dodgy millionaire and a Ukrainian drug lord in the mix, but likely nothing that a bit of old-fashioned police work can't sort. What could possibly go wrong?”
Following the success of, and praise for, Thatch, Harry is currently putting the finishing touches to a sequel.
He’s also already hatched outlines for a further two books in the series.
Away from working and writing, the father of two enjoys walking his dogs in the south-west France countryside.
