East Anglian lawyer’s hit book solves murder riddle

Added: (Thu Feb 10 2022)

Pressbox (Press Release) - A retired lawyer from East Anglia has offered a solution to one of the most contentious mysteries in English history
The new novel by Felix Bourne, who writes under the pseudonym John Benedict, has already reached the top ten in Amazon’s historical fiction charts.
And Foweraker’s Ricardian Riddle has also been met with a string of five-star reviews from captivated readers.
Felix’s thrilling and remarkably well researched murder mystery is heavily inspired by classic crime fiction and films.
He explained: “I have long enjoyed the classic crime and espionage stories of the golden age, together with the films in those genres of the nineteen thirties to fifties.
“Eventually, following a career as a solicitor, partly in private practice but largely in the public service, I decided to write my own book set in that period.
“I have done it, though, under a pseudonym so as to protect the innocent.”
Foweraker’s Ricardian Riddle follows the fortunes of DCI James Foweraker as he attempts to solve a murder case at the heart of Cambridge academia.
Set in 1938, Felix’s gripping narrative explodes onto the page with the stabbing of an elderly professor – and current Master of St John’s.
The finger of suspicion rotates from students to colleagues as the mystery of Professor Morecote’s death leads detectives down through the centuries.
Felix, whose favourite authors include Charles Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle and John Buchan explained: “Was it the American students who feared being sent down for night-climbing?
“Or could it be a resentful colleague?
“Alternatively, was it connected with the discovery of artefacts - now missing - relating to the origins of the college and to its founder, Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of Henry VII?
“These artefacts alone would be almost priceless, but amongst them was a document, possibly written by Sir John Buck, historian and Master of the Revels in the Jacobean period.
“That document blamed Margaret Beaufort, and not Richard III, for the disappearance of the Princes in the Tower.
“Given the importance of the Tudors in English history, this could, in the wrong hands, especially those of the country’s enemies, prove political dynamite.”
Following the success of Foweraker’s Ricardian Riddle, Felix is planning two further books with the same characters.
