Berks boss’s grammar guide hit book

Pressbox (Press Release) - A former CEO from Berkshire is going back to basics in a bid to bring Britain’s workforce up to speed with grammar.
MK Taylor became so disillusioned with the nation’s poor spelling, punctuation and apostrophe placement when reading her emails that she decided to write her own guide.
A Short Guide to Grammar at Work! has just reached the top three in both Amazon’s grammar and writing charts.
The 62-year-old from Slough believes that by following a few simple rules everyone can improve their communication skills.
MK, who studied modern languages at university, explained: “The idea for A Short Guide to Grammar at Work! came from reading emails from a whole cross-section of people.
“They made me realise that the need existed for a short - and only a short - grammar book with just the main and essential points, to greatly improve the credibility of those in the workplace.
“I just started to write down examples that I’d heard or read, of where basic grammatical rules hadn’t been followed, and this list forms the basis of the book.
“It is my view that, in these increasingly competitive times, this little book can make the key difference in giving readers greater confidence in how they portray themselves and their prospects in a work environment.”
A Short Guide to Grammar at Work! shines a light on the common misconceptions and mistakes made with written English.
A recent survey of company executives found that more than half of them would be put off hiring a candidate with poor grammar.
For the many who believed that obeying the rules of written English was something purely for the classroom, help is now at hand.
A Short Guide to Grammar at Work! is an easy-to-follow guide for avoiding the common pitfalls – and for once more being able to communicate with authority.
MK, who has headed up organisations in the private, public and voluntary sectors, added: “Poor grammar can so often - and totally wrongly - be linked with poor ability, thus negatively affecting other people’s perception and rating of you.
“A Short Guide to Grammar at Work! is designed to tool-up the working world to be confident when speaking and writing, through understanding and using correct, and often so simple to grasp, grammatical constructions.”
MK’s 48-page guide has been so well received that she is considering writing another guide for the use of English language.
