This is the sixth racing thriller by author, Charlie De Luca and will be of interest to your readers. Nat Wilson is an ex-champion steeplechase jockey whose comeback after injury starts very well. Then he has several unusual falls on horses that should have won and rumours circulate that he has lost his nerve. When photos appear in the press picturing him late at night with a woman other than his fiancée, he starts to think that someone is out to get him. The problem is what to do about it. He decides who better to turn to assist him than his best friend, Finn McCarthy.
Meanwhile Finn has troubles of his own. He and his friend Harriet Lucas, dietician with the Professional Jockeys’ Association, are getting to know the latest crop of conditional jockeys. Finn hopes they are not as troublesome as some of his previous charges. He is already worried about one girl, Sinead O’Neill, as her trainer has already expressed concerns about her attitude and lateness, then after an argument with other jockeys, she winds up dead from what appears to be a hit and run incident. Is one of the jockeys responsible for her death? Finn and Harriet investigate and uncover far more than they bargained for.
